Friday Hop ~ Book Blogger Hop and Feature & Follow Friday

Were you a born bookworm or somebody got you into the habit of reading?

Born a bookworm! My Mother read to me when I was a child. I still own my very first book, a hardcover A4 book of nursery rhymes, scribble and all done by yours truly. Then as a child my nose was always stuck in a book, I didn't go anywhere without one, this pretty much continued throughout my childhood till I got to high school. From high school through to my early 20s I still read but my reading reduced quite substantially for me anyway.

Q. Share something you’ve learned about book blogging or just blogging in general in the last month.

I don't have a huge amount of book blogging experience, but one thing that stands out to me is that blogging is a lot more time consuming than I originally thought, therefore, being organised is very important. Also don't sign up for too many blog tours, eARC's or accept too many books for reviews.

I'm really looking forward to reading everyone's answer to this question as I know I'll just learn something new.

I think it's awesome that you still have your first book! My mom saved a bunch of mine, and I have them now in my home library. Every so often, I like to page through one or two, just for fun. :)

You have great questions and answers today! I was a bookworm from birth too. My grandparents and parents passed that love of reading down when I was small. It was always, go and pick out a book for us to read. :)

I'm a big fan of organizational (in everything) and agree that it's really important to keep you on task and to make sure you're not overextending yourself. But you have to find a balance so that it doesn't rule you as well and then blogging becomes less fun.

Have a great weekend Angelica!

I wasn't expecting as many review requests as I receive, so organization is the only thing keeping me sane! I'm still trying to find a way to plan a bit better and keep track of everything without going insane. Book reviewing is definitely harder work than I thought 3 months ago. Thanks for stopping by my FF.

I have EVERY book my son and I read. :) We even have the ones with the torn pages that he tried to eat when he was VERY small. :) Those are the most cherished.

I am a bookworm that grew into one. I wasn't born one.

My full post is in the link below.

Have a great day!!

Happy Hopping!!

Interesting your reading dropped off in high school. That makes me wonder why? Love that you have your first book. I had some books about Heidi when young. Awesome books. They were read on down through the family. One of my sisters appropriated it when grown up and had it recovered. I can look at it but can't have it! :(

Being organised is definitely important. I've discovered that if I prepare all my posts on the weekend it makes life during the week easier.

Thanks for stopping by my FF :)

That's really cool that you still have your first book. I was born a bookworm, too. I can't remember a time when I didn't love to read (though my mom keeps telling me that I didn't like to read at first... I don't believe her!). I started following you on Bloglovin'. Nice to meet you!

I agree that it's über important not to take on too many eARCs or reviews. It gets overwhelming quickly and then there's no time to read fun books! >.<

Thanks for stopping by my FF! I'm a really new blogger and I still can't believe how time consuming it is! I love every minute, but it saddens me that my blogging will have to decline a bit when school starts because I just won't have the time :-( I've been very slow to sign up for things because I don't want to commit to something I can't follow through with, but I have been a little too eager over at NetGalley. It's so hard to turn down free books!! LOL Have a great weekend!

I was born a bookworm too - my Mom read to me in the womb and out.

I am guilty when it comes to those e-ARCs. The moment I discover NG and Edelweiss and the Read to Review Programs in my GR groups, I was like a madwoman requesting all those lovely and irresistible ARCs. And now I am suffering. Whenever I look at my so so many ARCs, I can't help but cringe. *sighs*

Thanks for dropping by my FF. Following you on bloglovin! :D

Hello there, Angelica. Sorry for my very late reply. I was thinking to reply to your question on my blog but changed my mind because there's a possibility that you might miss it.

Here's your question:

Are you transferring yourself or have you hired someone to do it for you?

I did the whole transfer myself. I followed Parajunkee's guide on blog transfer. Click me.

I actually planned to hire someone to do it but later ignored the idea since I want to be hands on. Anyway, I only have 60+ posts to transfer so it was tolerable. But if you don't want to go through the hassle and would rather hire someone, you can always approach Parajunkee or Ashley of NoseGraze.com or Shannon of Twilightsleep.net. Shannon's price is 65$ but she'll give you the UBB plugin (costs 35$) for free.

I’m currently looking for domain name + web hosting for cheap.
One of the services I’m looking at for hosting has it’s own free web hosting for a year, so I’m considering that but after the year it’s $70/yr whereas I found another reputable company that will host my blog + domain name for 3 years for $135 which works out less than $4/month.

Before I transferred, I wrote a lot of options about the hosts that I am going to use. There was RFE, Hostgator, Bluehost, GoDaddy, Dreamhost and TwilightSleep. Out of those options, RFE was the most expensive but they have the best customer support. You can read this article for more info: Web Hosting

And the cheapest webhosting was that of Twilight Sleep's. The info is here:
Twilight Sleept Webhosting. After a lot of thinking, I finally settled to use GoDaddy.com. As long as you use an affiliate link, you are entitled to get 50% off from the monthly webhosting fee. That means that I am only paying 2.99 $ every month for a total of 36$ for a full year hosting plan. And if you buy the 1 year plan, the Domain name is for FREE. :D Yes, only 36$ for webhosting + Domain name. Just visit Parajunkee's guide (link above) for more details.

I hope that answers all your questions. :D

I’d like to hear your thoughts on $ for domain + web hosting as I’m new to all this LOL I don’t know who else to compare prices with.

You're right. Blogging is time consuming. I'm trying to not requesting many books at Netgalley and accept many review request since I've got a lot of books waiting to be read

Johanna Thiemann said...

I agree with you. I made the mistake to accept wait too many tours (with not exactly exciting books) AND too many eARCs. I'm still struggling with the last part.

Thanks for visiting! I'm following back via GFC and Bloglovin!

I'm very bad when it comes to ARCs - I can't stop myself from requesting more if my favorite authors show up on Netgalley... I'm very good about reading them all, though :)

Have a great weekend, Angelica.

Your so right I think we might be blogger twins! I was really surprised by how time consuming blogging was when I first started - not just reading and reviewing, but participating in memes, commenting on other people's blogs and now I'm on Twitter too! But I've just started using a calendar to prepare when I will post what and getting upcoming posts ready for the week, so that I can just sit back and read! But like you I sometimes get a little excited with Netgalley & blog tours - hopefully my new calendar system will prevent from from taking too much on!

I also noticed you're participating in "Netgalley Knockout", I haven't heard of it, but it sounds like something I should do too!!

Paperback Princess said...

Amy I use Google Calendar to put up when my tours are due and I normally read the following week's events the week before, maybe I should schedule more advance LOL

Lexxie so long as your good in reading and writing up the reviews, you can request as many as you can :D
